Recommended upgrade path from HP Integrity RX6600 server

$

Hi,

A customer wants to replace their existing RX6600 servers with new ones that are just slightly higher. They would then keep the old ones for the DR site.

What is a recommended upgrade path from HP Integrity RX6600 server?

Please advice.

MC990X Firmware downloading.

Hello...

I am having trouble with downloading the MC990X firmware , The support site keeps pushing me to

the Warranties and Licensing website and then requesting a SAID. Well there is No SAID associated with the

firmware yet,   Any ideas.  I am trying to escalate this as well .

Firmware download

Good afternoon!

Our rx2660 server's firmware revision is too old - we would like to upgrade it. I know we must have a support contract with HP for downloading patches and firmwares. Do I need a Hardware or Software support contract for this? We are ready to buy the software support (with return-to-support) because we need the newest HPUX 11iv3 operating system, but someone has told me that I can get the server's firmware only if I have the hardware support too.

In the past the firmwares were available by patches - did this change? If I can download firmwares by patches then it will be enough to order the software suppot. Am I right?

Thanks for your help in advance,

Knd regards,

Laszlo

Lost cause disk?

Hi,

This is probably a lost cause disk issue but I may be lucky and someone in this forum might tell me otherwise

RX7620 has two internal disks on vg00. Root disk is fine, the disk with /opt is not fine

ioscan reports all ok c0t6d0 c3t6d0  both CLAIMED, c3t6 has the problem though as reported by lvm

LVM : Failure in attaching PV (64000/0xfa00/0x2) to the root volume group.

reconnect -r says not ok

I've tried reseating but getting to the end of things to try. In case it's just the disk label that's missing is there a way to get this back?

Possible CPU Board failure - need to review

Hello guys,

So there is an HP Integrity RX6600 server, which simply cannot be turned on. When user power-on the chassis, the server goes into Power-off mode immediately (afer 5 seconds)

After reviewing logs (MP logs), we found that the chassis hasn’t any chance to do basic checks and stop at beginning so it has to be a critical section of the server like (CPU Board or CPU modules)

Processor Module 1: Installed and Configured

So basically we've ordered second handed items like:  Power supply module, CPU board + CPU modules for replacement on the server.

Power Supply modules are OK, we confirm that. However we’re not sure about CPU Board. Because as soon as we replace the old CPU Board with new CPU Board that we purchased there will be no AC power indicator on Power supply not or the Power button !!

When we replace it back with faulty CPU Board, AC power will back on both Power supply and Power button.

We even tried to only replace 1 CPU module (new one) on the old CPU Board (Processor Module 0: Installed and NOT CONFIGURED), but again same problem (the server power-on and after 5 seconds it will be turned off).

Could you please guide us about this problem. is there anything else i can do for troubleshooting ? have you faced this problem before ?

Thanks.

how to get two fibre controllers to use the same EFI driver

I have installed 2 of the same PN# FIbre Cards (AH400A) into 2 RX2800 I4's. The Firmware on the SErvers are up to date.

I installed one Card and tried to run the firmware update for the card, The utility reported back saying the firmware was updated (which it was), and the driver was updated from 2.22 to 2.27 or so it said. When I go into EFI the first card driver still says its at 2.22.

I just installed a second PN# card and used the same utility as the first card, and it worked.

HW-Upgrade, replace 860c i2 with 860c i6 with minimum downtime

$

Hi,

I just want to get feedback about my steps to Upgrade my existing Blade-HW.

Scenario:

2-Node Cluster with BL860c i2 in two different C3000 Enclosures. Each enclosure has Storages (P2000 and MSA2040) connected, mirroring between these is done via LVM.

New HW is very similar to old one, regarding number of mezzanine-cards

My approach would be:

  1. move all Applications to Node1, freeing up Node2 (Means a short downtime, so needs to be scheduled=. Disable automatic clusterstart on node2.
  2. create an Ignite Image of Node2 to Ignite-Server.
  3. shut down Node2 and unplug it from C3000
  4. plug the new HW-Blade in the same slot
  5. reconfigure SAN-Connections in the FC-Controllers of the C3000 to reflect the new HW
  6. Passthrough does not need to be reconfigured for LAN-Ports
  7. boot new HW from Igniteserver
  8. check if everything is OK
  9. join this node to cluster, check ...
  10. move all apps to the new node (second downtime)
  11. repeat steps on Node1

Did I miss something important ?

Would it be an option, to switch internal diskdrives from old HW to new HW instead of Ignite ? Thus minimizing downtime. Then when Cluster is working, replace internal diskdrives one by one with the new ones.

Thanks,

Christian

I thought I solved this problem by upgrading the patch level to Sep 2015. and upgrading the firmware but no.

Here's the sequence of events:

  1. The following appears on the console and in syslog:

Jan  2 20:20:19 molhpi24 vmunix: iexgbe4/1689, Microcode assert 00000100 00000020 00000040 00000080 00000100

Jan  2 20:38:16 molhpi24  above message repeats 5 times
Jan  2 20:38:16 molhpi24  above message repeats 7 times

This has probably happened a dozen times in the past couyple of years.  Of course when the VM host loses network connectivity, so do the VMs.  I've tried everything I could think of but within maybe 15 minutes of me trying to shutdown the VMs, the blade server crashes.  And sometimes, it leaves a mess.

Thanks for reading this.  Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks,

Steve
